Vista & Office 2007 Error: "not been installed for the current user"
I've got a problem similar to others, except this is official
releases
of Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 Ultimate. When I attempt to execute
Word, the Office configuration runs, then the dreaded "Microsoft
Office Word has not been installed for the current user" pops up
every
time I run Word and kills it immediately. I am the Administrator
account. It worked when I initially installed it back in Jan. 2007.
So
there must be a rogue update that killed it. Anybody else seen this
recently? Vernon.

run the installer again on top... and select repair or reinstall

That does not work, nor does uninstalling/reinstalling, nor does the
Windows Install Cleanup Tool. Vernon.

You bet. It's permissions.

I talked with Microsoft support. It was determined that upon
installation of Office that:
a) the owner of the Office app's was SYSTEM, not my administrator
account, and
b) the app's permissions were read-only for my administrator account.
This also affected the shortcuts that are created in the All Programs
section of
the Start Menu. I had to go into the Program Files (x86)\Microsoft
Office folder and
modify permissions on each .EXE for the programs to operate. Then I
replaced all the
existing shortcuts.

Something changed. They can't tell me what. At least it works. Vernon.

Hi there. I just found this forum and wow it's seem to be great. Good
idea to have a dedicated Vista x64 forum for the crowd. I hope alot of
ppl check in here regularly.

Anyway, I have the same problem as you. I can't get my Office
applications to work either. It did work just a couple of days ago but
now I get the "not installed for the current user" error.

I have tried the "run as administrator" function and that works. But
*only *for my Vista account and not my girlfriends. I have also tried to
change the owner of outlook.exe , wvista.exe (and so on) to my account
but that doesn't help either.

How did you get your Office applications to work after you got this
error message?

Have you tried turning User Account Control (UAC) temporarily, then try
reinstalling Microsoft Office 2007, then reenable UAC?

Re: Vista & Office 2007 Error: "not been installed for the current user"

Okej here is what I've just done...

1. Uninstalled Office 2007
2. I disabled User Account Control (UAC)
3. Rebooted the computer
4. Installed Office 2007
5. Ran all the Office applications from both Vista users and all of
them now worked
6. Turned UAC on
7. Rebooted computer
8. Tried to run all Office applications again but now none of them
worked. Except if I ran them as an administrator.

So... what is going on here...? I don't get it... Why is this still an
issue then Office 07 has been out for quite a while now?

I really, really need to get this to work on both mine and my
girlfriends accounts as soon as possible so I hope some kind soul can
help me til' I get it to work.

What should I try to do now?

Re: Vista & Office 2007 Error: "not been installed for the current
I like to Take Ownership and grant myself Full Control permissions over large
branches of my C drive, like the folder Program Files. Make sure your
actions take effect for this folder and all subfolders and files. Then all
your programs will be under your control. If you want to allow other users
to have access to your programs, also grant them some control and Share
(Properties, Sharing, Advanced Sharing) your Program Files folder. This
tutorial will show you how to do this.
