Script 5.6
In trying to install a new HP printer, an error code came up and, in their
language, they told me I had a corrupted script 5.6 and needed to get a fix
from Microsoft. I tried on their website, but saw none for Vista. Called,
but since the Vista was part of the Dell I purchased, I was referred to Dell.
Dell told me I have to reinstall the entire Vista all over again! That
would delete all of my personal files and all program files I had
installed....I do not know a lot about computers, but I don't have back up or
cd's or anything sufficient to copy everything to do this. What do I do? I
have Dell's supervisor's supervisor calling me on Tuesday as I told them
their response was unacceptalbe. Can anyone give me any other suggestions?

Might just be a question of running your printer installer 'as
administrator' (right-click)

Re: Script 5.6
In all likelihood, your Windows Script files are fine. Vista's Script files
are version 5.7. It is probably one of the programs (like a photo
organizer) that come with the printer, and not the driver itself, that uses
those files. If you want to be sure your system files are okay, including
the Script files, you can use the System File Checker, by right-clicking on
Command Prompt (Start Menu\Programs\Accessories), and choosing Run as
Administrator. At the prompt, type:
sfc /scannow
Press enter on your keyboard. The scan may take awhile.

Re: Script 5.6
At any rate, I wouldn't re-install Vista. HP should know about the error, if
their software is supposed to be compatible with Vista (it shouldn't be
looking for Windows Script 5.6), and Dell sounds like they're out to lunch.
You're the victim of major buck-passing.
