Vista with fingerprint reader?
Hi,
I am ordering a few mobile workstations from Dell, and according to sales,
if we use Vista Business (Yes, still wish to give it a try for 1-2 systems),
it cannot come with fingerprint reader, and only XP Pro will support it.
So is it true that Vista Business cannot support current fingerprint reader?
Anyone uses Vista with fingerprint reader?
Many thanks in advance!

Re: Vista with fingerprint reader? - Solved
First of all, sorry for double posted to the hardware device instead of
cross posting, since I initially forgot that group.
Second of all, I guess I was misinformed and there are several models can
work with Vista.
However, I also found the following article on MS site for your reference:
You cannot use a fingerprint reader or another biometric device to log on
after you upgrade to Windows Vista

Re: Vista with fingerprint reader? - Solved
I have the fingerprint reader working on a Dell D620 and D820. It works fine
for logon as long as you are not using a domain. If you have a domain you
need more pieces from Wave systems.

Re: Vista with fingerprint reader? - Solved
Hi,
Thanks for your kind reply. We are getting M65, and others also said they
have fingerprint readers working fine with Vista (SONY and HP).
I am not sure why the sales lady told us that it won't work well with our
systems, or could it be she knows we have domain servers?
Well, I will check for more details.
Thanks again for your information.

I'm using Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba and, after loading the driver
provided by Toshiba, the fingerprint reader works fine.

Re: Vista with fingerprint reader?
(Vista Home Premium)
I am using Microsoft fingerprint reader. Seems to work just fine. There is a
feature that I don't like when working in MSN calendar function but that was
also when using XP. Use it to logon, switch users, and send name/password
to web sites.
Note that MS says this item is NOT A SECURITY FEATURE it is a convenience
feature.

Re: Vista with fingerprint reader?
I have the Dell fingerprint reader configured and working in Vista. Dell has
drivers for Vista on their web site.
If you are part of a domain there is another piece required from Wave
Systems, but if not it should work as advertised. It is kind of cool to log
into Vista just by swiping my finger.
I have tried it on a few D620s and on a D820 with success.

Re: Vista with fingerprint reader?
I have a D830, Vista Business, shipped to me at the end of June. Can't get
the 'Embassy Suite Software' to recognize that the TPM is enabled and
activated. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Janelle

Re: Vista with fingerprint reader?
I just got a brand new Dell D630 Latitude with UPEK fingerprint reader. It uses the WAVE Embassy Security Suite software. I activated the parts, registered fingerprints, but still can't log onto my computer after booting up without either using a password or entering my fingerprint twice. Each time after the first swipe it says "there are no fingerprints for this user." But I can see/update them in the WAVE software. Any ideas on where the best patches for this fingerprint reader are? I can see lots of people have been having problems with them. Thanks!

Re: Vista with fingerprint reader?
Hi,
You might want to contact Dell support for the issue. When Vista was just
released, I was advised by their account rep. for not using fingerprint
reader with Vista as there are compatibility issues, but it has been a while
and don't know if the issue has been addressed.
Hope this helps and good luck.
