Powerpoint slide show

Hi,
When I try to open a power point e-mail attachment, it says "could not be
opened because the associated helper application does not exist". When I save
it to a folder, I can open the file. I can not go from one picture to the
next unless I right click. This brings up the menu and it will not go to the
slide show at all. Can any one help me or point me in the right direction to
resolve this problem.

What version of PowerPoint?

Slide shows built in PowerPoint 2003 run fine here in PowerPoint 2007.

I am on a free trial of MS Student and Office 2007. I tried it under
powerpoint 2007, 2003, and went back as far as 1997. With the same results.
