To Linux friends
I know I said good bye, but I just want Linux friends to know - I gave it a
chance by trying to download and install ubuntu.
But it won't start the installation.
The following is part of the endless error codes:
Error messages:
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs) [34.158610] ata2.00 failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)
[continued..]
Please noted that I am using the same system with the same HDD for testing
Vista. It's a 3-year old desktop, nothing fancy and certainly is not an
outdated system.
To see if I have good DVD discs, I tried one with the free Infra Recorder
and another one with Nero. Neither disc would let me start installation.
It never started.
I think that's enough for me.
Like I said before, go back do your homework or it's not going to help
anyone including yourselves.
Just take it as a friendly feedback and I won't engage into a lengthy
debate.

I suggest you get Suse Linux. The one I use is the paid for version
supported by Novell and has tech support help for Suse. There is a free
version of Suse.
There is also a NG for Suse at alt.os.linux.suse.
Suse installed on my old Dell Opti-plex desktop like a champ, which was
about 5 years old at the time.

Re: To Linux friends
Boys boys all this testosterone over an operating system.
Like having different races of people in the world we can have different
operation systems, it's OK it's not dangerous. We can all live together
playing with whatever software rings our bell, myself I use Mac, Windows &
Linux so maybe I'm just sitting on the fence, but hey I get to have a good
look at others from up here.
So do we blame the Fin or the American for the worlds latest unrest.

It's not my fault, I didn't do it! :-D

Re: To Linux friends
I got a copy of Fedora "working", however I am trying to learn Linux and the
installation was quite difficult from the standpoint of first getting the
HDD not to boot to Windows, then making choices about the installation that
I had no idea of what was taking place. The terms had no meaning for me,
(thats why I am trying to learn Linux) but somehow after 2 hrs it "Works".
Have no idea of how to do simple things like add a printer etc.

Afraid I can't help you. I've done 37 ubuntu installs in the last year or
so, and I've never seen anything like that.

Fedora is my favorite flavor!
To add a printer, research CUPS.

Not surprising that you get more responses from the nixers in this ng than
you would from the same people in a nix ng.
And... can't help you on the install problem. Ubuntu installed here on one
laptop and two VM's without issue. (I anticipate replies stating that I'm a
dope because it worked here, so I must think there's something wrong with
you.)
What's next? Questions about GarageBand?
