Removing Gateway Utilities
I am trying to remove Gateway Utilities froma gateway machine as Windows
Ultimate upgrade will only complete to around 70%, then uninstall listing
this program as the cause. I have searched hard drives, hidden files and
registry entries and cannot find this program anywhere on my computer.
Gateways only help is to reformat and use a clean install. I don't want to do
that as I bought Ultimate for the upgrade feature to save re-installing 6 gig
of files. This is the ONLY issue I see listed in the windows upgrade
adviser. ANY help would be appreciated.

Re: Removing Gateway Utilities
Are you talking about Bigfix?

I was able to upgrade XP MCE to Vista Home Premium.

Later, after Vista was working ok, I uninstalled the Gateway stuff, like
BigFix. And removed the recovery partition.

Gateway says I should reformat and install a clean install. That defeats the
entire purpose of buying Ultimate for me to use the upgrade and not have to
reinstall 6 gigs of files and networking.
The Vista upgrader (unfortunately) does not tell me where it FINDS this
program, just I need to remove it. Even Gateway does not know how to remove
it. I feel it is a registry entry remaining after it was deleted when the
computer was first received. There are no programs under the gateway name on
the PC. It looks like if I want to use Vista, I will not be able to use the
upgrade feature. This is really making it hard.

Looking back at my report, the Gateway utilities was listed also, as needing
to be updated after installation. The only thing I uninstalled was Nero 7.
It was the only thing that the advisor said HAD to be removed before
installing Vista.

I went ahead with the upgrade, and it's been working great for 3 months now.

Only problems I had was with HP printer software, Intel webcam, and Sony
phone cable/software, which wouldn't work.
