App "Stopped Working ... checking for a solution": No I just close
Some legacy applications, eg. Paradox 9, work perfectly well but every now
and again Vista seems to thing something is wrong when the user just closes
the program.

Any ideas what would cause this ?

I see that this problem sometimes occurs with recent programs as well, eg.
seen posts about Media Player and Internet Explorer
