So... we're talking about an application (exe) that loads to provide control
or status for your nic? We're not talking about the nic driver itself,
right?
If the former, then you've nothing to lose by trying the "run as
administrator" trick and it shouldn't hose anything up and even if it does,
you should be be to go back to the exe and remove the run as administrator
check. Also, if the former, I assume it puts an icon in the "notification
area" of the task bar (right hand side of taskbar) that lets you either make
changes to your nic's settings or see information on your nic or both.
(Or... maybe there's a hotkey combination that opens the utility if it's not
in the taskbar.) Maybe you can exit from that utility and restart it with
the exe and if you get the UAC dlg box again, exit the utility again, change
the exe to run as administrator, run it again and see if the UAC dlg stops
popping. That way you won't have to make the change and restart your seat to
see if it works. Then again, maybe the exe doesn't provide any UI and you'll
just have to try changing the exe's properties to run as administrator and
restart the PC...
