hi

I am getting such slow internet speeds on 8mbs connection xp was fine.
Vista only gives me 1mbs of bandwidth - something is wrong - any ideas?
its a decent spec pc and this is such a let down of vista
DLINK Router connected via cable
have tried:
1 - disabling all the windows protection crap
2 - setting autolevel to disable
3 - different network cards

I am all out of ideas - please help

but more importantly, where are you and what service do you have that gives
8MB connections?
we're talking megaBYTES, and not megaBITS, right?

That is a bad attitude to take against someone that is trying to help

Re: Vista - Internet speed very slow - Help out of ideas
What you need Rich is take a deep breath, realize the people here are trying
to help you.
You are adding the stress and anger to the equation.
I have a 15MB connection with Cox, and all the Betas I tested worked just
fine
FWIW - Vista doesn't have the serious problem - you do.
See line 1 - respond with some particulars and I'm sure will arrive

If you feel you are not getting the help you are entitled to here, you can
feel free to contact Microsoft's other support options, which will probably
want you to pay but at least you can be assured there that the person you're
talking to will actually put up with you and be as sycophantic as you need
them to be.

Well repeating "8MBS" over and over and criticising people who are trying to
find out about your system instead of trying to provide answers or at least
asking why their questions are important isn't helping things. Pipex offer
an "Up to 8 Mbit" service, so I'm going to assume that is what you have.

Moving on, how are you determining that your connection speed is slower than
normal. I'm guessing it obviously 'feels' that way, but how have you
actually measured it? How are you comparing it to the performance of Windows
XP?

*How* is your computer connected to this internet connection? USB connected
ADSL modem? Have you checked for updated drivers, or if the supplier knows
of any problems with their equipment working properly in Vista?

Re: Vista - Internet speed very slow - Help out of ideas
Rich - you are "messed up" and should apologize to the previous responders.

Broadband dial-up and network "speeds" are NOT expressed in terms of
"megabytes " but in terms if "megabits per second". To determine the speed
in bytes you divide the "bits by eight".
With your attitude - good luck in getting assistance!
