FOLDER-PROPERTIES-CUSTOMIZE-FOLDER PICTURES
In XP I could right-click on a folder (in thumbnail view), select Properties,
then the Cutomize tab, and choose a jpg file in the Folder Pictures section
to show that jpg thumbnail on the folder icon. This all seems to still exist
in Vista, but it doesn't work. Nothing appears in the folder pictures box
when I select a file and the thumbnail is not updated. Any ideas?

Re: FOLDER-PROPERTIES-CUSTOMIZE-FOLDER PICTURES
Click Start, type "control folders"
In the View tab, uncheck the following option:
"Always show icons, never thumbnails"
Click OK.

Thanks Ramesh, but it's already unchecked I'm afraid.
Any more ideas?

Re: FOLDER-PROPERTIES-CUSTOMIZE-FOLDER PICTURES
there appears to be 2 different options to change the FOLDER icon.
under the Customize tab first one is
Folder Pictures with the option to select a picture to use
other one
Folder Icon
with option button to change icon
but it has a warning gotcha.
have you tried them.

Re: FOLDER-PROPERTIES-CUSTOMIZE-FOLDER PICTURES
Thanks Mike, this is also the same in XP where I had no probs. Out of
curiosity, I tried changing the icon in any case. Had absolutely no effect! I
can't understand why there is absolutley nothing in the Folder Pictures
section, there should surely be at leaast an icon showing what Vista thinks
the current folder should look like, as in XP. Many of my folders, most of
which are on separate drives to that to which Vista is (or XP was) installed,
show the folder pictures correctly, but there is no difference either in the
folders themselves, or in the customize-folder options tab, between those
that show correctly and those that don't.

Re: FOLDER-PROPERTIES-CUSTOMIZE-FOLDER PICTURES
not sure what you might have done to stop it, maybe some 3rd party program.
I just changed the folder icon for my epson folder to a printer, and it changed instantly.
the folder is located in the boot drive as a sub folder to "C".

Re: FOLDER-PROPERTIES-CUSTOMIZE-FOLDER PICTURES
Hi, I just wanted to say I'm having the same problem and I have Ultimate
64-bit as well. One of my hard drive icons got changed to a "default
icon" when I put some wireless network configuration files on it (which
changed the icon to one of those wireless removable drive icons) and
then deleted the files, hoping that the icon would change back. Now I
can't change the icon to anything else.
