Sound Recorder In Vista
I like MS but hate it when they screw around with a good program. Sound
Recorder in Pre-Vista Windows was a simple but useful program. Sound
Recorder in Vista is a severly crippled version that only records in one
format without being able to select other compression formats. WHY!

I copied Sound Recorder from XP (renamed it Sound Recorder XP) and copied it
to my Vista machine. It works but only has the "stock" compression options.
I installed l3codeca.acm (Mpeg Layer3) and placed it in my System32 folder
but it still doesn't show up as an option in Sound Recorder XP.

How can I get the Mpeg Layer3 option to show up as an option in Sound
Recorder XP on Vista? Can I even do this? I remeber seeing something about
MS changing something in Vista so it won't recognize MP3 code programs.

Thanks for the help. Mike

Maybe the following freebie would be worth a try:

Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Audacity Tutorials
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manu...tutorials.html

Exporting MP3/OGG Files
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manu...exportmp3.html

Re: Sound Recorder In Vista
Thanks for the reply Inzer. That's exactly what I did. I downloaded
Audacity and am using it instead of MS Sound Recorder but I really liked the
"old" MS Sound Recorder and hoped there was some way of getting it to work in
Vista (with Mpeg layer3). Audacity is good but I REALLY liked the old MS
Sound Recorder. It was a great little program with a lot of sound
compression options. It's sad that MS had to strip it down to almost a
useless program.

Re: Sound Recorder In Vista
Just another proof Vista was ironically NOT an upgrade but a piece of
garbage when compared to good old WinXP
I started hating even the word itself "Vista".

Hasta La Vista, and never come back dear Vista.
