Use custom boot splash in Vista?
In XP, we were able to use custom boot splash graphics by setting flags
in boot.ini (add /bootlogo /noguiboot to the OS line) and placing a
boot.bmp in the Windows directory. Is this possible in Vista, and if so
how is it done since boot.ini is no longer used?

Regards,

Dave

Re: Use custom boot splash in Vista?
Microsoft removed the boot screens so Vista would start up more quickly.
They were trying to lead the way toward *no* logo'd boot screens. Search
the web and you will find that Microsoft shaved an estimated six seconds off
of boot by removing the high resolution boot screen.

Also, they are pointless once Readydrives become common. You would never
have the time to view one.

Re: Use custom boot splash in Vista?
Thanks for the info. I had seen that there wasn't a MS/Windows
bootsplash any more, but had thought there might still be a way to
display a custom bootsplash. As I recall, the /bootlogo parameter
wasn't documented for a long time, so I thought I'd check with the
experts.

Not sure I'd consider 640x480x16 colors high resolution (that's all you
get for a replacement bootsplash in XP), but OK...

We did see a couple of second reduction in boot time by replacing the
animated XP bootsplash with our custom bootsplash, but that wasn't our
primary reason for replacing it. This is a single-purpose system, and
"branding" it was what we wanted more than anything.

Best regards,

Dave
