browser problems in displaying some sites

I have had problems opening some internet sites, "IE cannot display the
webpage" etc. I can ping the sites and get a return, but neither IE7 nor
firefox can display the sites. I didn't have this problem until I upgraded
to Vista and IE7. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
