Home Premium > Ultimate?

If I buy & install a full version of Home Premium and later want to upgrade
to Ultimate, can it be done by purchasing an Ultimate key from Microsoft?
If upgrading is possible, would the Ultimate install be an "upgrade" saving
all setting/programs, or would it be a clean install saving nothing?

You would be able to use the Windows Anytime Upgrade feature which is built
into Vista to upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate.

It can be accessed via Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Windows Anytime
Upgrade

The procedure is done online.
