Icons - Desktop
When I start up my PC it shows the wallpaper, icons, like usual, then after
few seconds the icons disappear and come back. it is like refreshing the
desktop. Any idea about what happen with the Desktop icons. Thanks for your
help.

This is not simply a Vista issue, it goes back at least to Windows 95. As
you have surmised, at times the desktop will refresh itself. The fewer
icons you have on the desktop, the less often this happens. Personally, I
place everything in quicklaunch and if I have various additional desktop
links and shortcuts I put them in a special folder on my desktop, thereby
keeping the desktop relatively bare and rarely do I see the issue. This has
the added benefit of also causing your system to boot faster and the desktop
will load faster once booted to the desktop.

There are any number of reasons why it happens. You may not have anything
open but there is much going on in the background and depending upon
resources and avaialble memory, the system may have to use memory allocated
elsewhere and once the background task is complete, the desktop may refresh,
clearing out old memory, releasing allocatted space, causing the desktop to
redraw.

Sometimes, if you have a graphics card with a lot of dedicated memory of its
own, you won't see this issue as much either though the system still boots
faster and loads the desktop faster the less you have on the desktop.
