Start Menu
At first my programs would launch from the Vista Start Menu, no problem.
Now, however, some of them won't launch. Clicking on them simply closes the
start dialog. I can move them to the quick launch bar and they start
properly, but I would like to have them work otherwise. Anyone know what can
be done to correct the problem?

Re: Start Menu
Could you specify the programs that are not launching, it could be specific
to those particular applications.

Re: Start Menu
No, it's not. Office 2007 Word is one. ABBYY Sprint FineReader is another.
Access is a third, and Nero 7.5.7 is another. No rhyme or reason.

Re: Start Menu
Try reinstalling them to see if they fix the problem. Avoid installing them
in the order you did originally.

RE: Start Menu
Rass,
By any chance are you using third party software that is open source code?
If so, easily that could be the source for the conflicts you are experiencing.
As Andre suggested, remove all non-Microsoft applications the perform a scan
disk and then defragment the HDD before ever considering re-installing the
third party stuff. Vista does not like not-certified applications.
Might consider experimenting with using the "Program Compatibilty" feature
within Vista.

Re: Start Menu
Are you talking about ones pinned to the start menu or in the recently used
section.
If you have one that works from quick launch, what happens if you drag and
drop it back on the start menu. Delete the one on the start menu first.

Re: Start Menu
Instead of critiquing, why don't you add some value by making a suggestion
what the OP should do? Sometimes the order in which you install apps can
affect other apps. Maybe the installer from one app affected the other.

Re: Start Menu
I'm using the programs from the recently used section as well as the pinned
section. Doesn't seem to make a difference. When they quit responding, they
all quit.
As to the other posts: I removed and reinstalled my applications.
Microsoft Office 2007 final release. They work from the sections just fine
for about 3 days then quit. That's the reason for my plea for help from
someone who might know what is stopping the "shortcut" in the recently used
and pinned sections from working. I can take the shortcut from either
section and drag and drop it to the quick launch bar and it works. Dragging
it back doesn't make it work.
There has to be something in Vista that won't allow the shortcut to work
after a few uses.
I am using Windows Vista Enterprise edition. I am affiliated with a
University as an instructor, and all faculty must now be using this OS.
There is nothing on my computer now except for Windows Vista final release
for educational institutions, and the final release for MS Office 2007.
Same problem. If I knew how to get to Microsoft development on Vista
directly, and thought I could actually communicate with them, I would do so.
Your forum is my only resource. By the way, there are 13 other faculty
members who are experiencing the same problem, not just myself.

Re: Start Menu
I disagree with the format of the new start menu of vista in the first
place.
I suggest the OP should switch to the classic menu and see if it works
there,
then post back.
