Restoring from a Previous Version NT Backup
I am looking to find out how I can perform a Vista restore operation on
data backed up on an XP operating system. There are links in the restore
process which infer that they will take you to the answer, but they only
take you to http://support.microsoft.com/ which doesn't seem to have the
information I am looking for.

Re: Restoring from a Previous Version NT Backup
There is now a "fix" for this problem from Microsoft, but all the website
does is tell you that you have to download the file and make sure that the
Removable Storage Manager is enabled. It does not tell you how to run the
program. I have downloaded and opened the file, and have set the Removeable
Storage Management component to on. Now what do I do?

Re: Restoring from a Previous Version NT Backup
1. download the NTbackup Restore Utility .msi file from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
2. turn on the Remote Storage Manager
3. double click the downloaded NtBackupRestore_x86.msi file - follow the
prompts to get the utility installed
4. click Start, All Programs, Windows NT Backup - Restore Utitility,
NtBackup-RestoreUtility

If you do step 3 before doing step 2 the NtBackup Restore Utility won't be
installed.

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
