I have the same problem using a new Dell Studio XPS 435 MT with Vista 64.
Called Dell support and spent over 3 hours with a representative during which time he took over my computer and tried a whole lot of things includint uninstall, reinstall etc etc. Nothing worked.
In the end I was advised to start from scratch - reinstall Vista and all programs!!
Not very helpful. Recovering the Dock is not worth all that effort.
Back to icons all over the screen like the old XP days. Should have changed over to Mac!!
