USB PORT not recognized, multiple problems

My USB port doesn 't recognize a plug & play device (for my digital camera),
in that the computer doesn't see the USB port. However, other USB devices do
work.

I tried the device on another computer and it works fine so it is not the
device.

My Lexmark printer doesn't have a driver for Vista yet. How can a major
company not have anticipated that a driver would be necessary for the new
version of Windows?

I am about ready to switch back to XP? Is this possible?
