Online support
I went into Microsoft help and support with a problem I had with an error
message in security. Since I have only had my PC 2 months I expected to get
free email support.
When I applied for it, it said to type the product ID number. I presumed it
meant the product id of my PC (20 figure number) which I did, but I then got
the message "The product number you entered is not valid......". I have tried
this several times without success. Can anyone give any suggestions or help?
Thanks
John McGoldrick

Re: Online support
It is possible that your Product ID Key is for an OEM version of Windows--in
which case all support is provided only by the system manufacturer, not
Microsoft.

Re: Online support
Unless he wants to pay of course.

Your XP was under 1/2 price if an OEM version. That's one thing you don't
get - to talk to a live MS person. You get to talk to an idiot who will say
do a Restore.

Re: Online support
Hi,

If your copy of Vista was preinstalled or was sold as OEM software, then
free support comes from the vendor, not Microsoft. Microsoft only has free
support for retail versions of its products.
