Can't move or delete AVI files
I can't move or delete any AVI files in Vista file explorer: it always
says another program has the file open. The files are located on a
network share, I haven't tried on a local disk.

The only 'alien' codec/video tool installed is Nero's media player,
maybe that's related, but it doesn't have to be used for the problem
to occur.

To move or delete the files I have to log off, log back on, and then
start a command prompt and do it there before explorer has 'seen'
them.

The problem only occurs with AVI's, not with WMV or so.

I forgot to mention the most important part: each time after explorer
has failed to move/delete such a file, a dialog pops up a few moments
later: "COM surrogate has stopped working."

When the dialog is dismissed it will reappear once, the second time it
is closed it stays away.

Playing the file in media player works fine.
It says it is using "Nero video decoder" as codec.

Getting rid of this fixed it.

Solved: the problem was caused by Nero's codec.

Thanks to Red Nosed Raindeer and Ken for the tips.
