Not sure if this has been brought up before, or if this is even the correct
place to post a bug but will do my best to explain it...
I have a number of files that share common names etc, music being the most
common. The new "Start Search" feature on the start menu is brilliant for
finding that individual song/file although I've come across a small bug with
it. If my search string matches multiple files I'll notice that the topmost
file is automatically highlighted (as well as the "See all results" down the
bottom). If I then use the arrow keys to try and navigate to the 2nd file it
changes the highlighted file correctly, but then when I hit the enter key,
the "See all results" is what's actually being executed.
Oddly there are a few anomolies that I might as well point out:
1. The same behaviour is not experienced when the search results contain the
category programs...i.e. Searching on "Word" and selecting either Wordpad or
Microsoft Word etc. Seems to be limited to just the "Files" category.
2. If you type the search string too quickly it doesn't seem to highlight
any of the results, and instead just highlights the "See all results".
And just in case you're having difficulty getting Vista to act the way that
I've described above try the following test. Create 3 files Test1.txt
Test2.txt and Test3.txt and place them all in an indexed location such as My
Documents. Hit the Start Button, enter "Test" as your seach string but
slowly so that the results for "T" show before you hit "e" and so on. Once
the Search string is completed as "Test" you should see the 3 files you just
created at the top with Test1.txt highlighted along with "See all results".
Press the down arrow key to navigate down to Test3.txt and hit enter.
Unfortunately, when you do this it executs the "See all results" rather than
the file name that you've just navigated to.
Hope this all makes sense, post back if not and I'll try and explain in more
detail.
Thanks,
GP
