unavailable desktop?

The other day I started my computer and got this message:

C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location
that is not available. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or
on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or
that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try
again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been
moved to a different location.

And Vista looked like a really old version of Windows. Wtf?

So I restarted and everything has been fine since. Just curious about
what happened.

Re:unavailable desktop?
I'm having the same problem on a recurring but irregular basis. Today I had
to restart three times to get my desk top back. Any help out there?

Same problem as...?

"ureader" is not meant for true newsgroup interactivity - you likley should
consider some other newsgroup application.

Ah - a quick search of *old* archives came up with this:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...01f5a61fe5409/

Wow - August 2008 - approaching 2+ years old, one person posting, no
responses... What was it you were hoping to gain by tacking onto that post?

Have you Googled for this? I recently had and there were many suggestions.
Having no idea what Windows Vista you are running (edition, architecture,
service pack level, etc) and what you have tried - many will hesitate to
offer assistance. Perhaps if you provided some information relevant to
*your* specific machine and issues...?
