Taskbar issues - missing power meter, network icon, and sound icon
Under the "Notification Area" of the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties"
window, I am unable to check the boxes for my volume icon, network icon, and
my power meter icon. These icons just randomly dissappeared when I booted up
my computer recently. I have tried rebooting many times, and turning off UAC.
When I turned off UAC, I got my battery meter back for that specific time
that I was on my computer. I had gotten my network icon back for a period of
time but it was gone the next time I booted.I have heard that this may be
caused by explorer crashing. I do not believe that my explorer has crashed
since I have had SP1. I have also had some issues with my Z-order on my
taskbar, but I can live with those. Please help me. I am going to college
soon, and I need these issues repaired before I leave so please do not chat
on my post like last time. THANK YOU in advance for any help anyone is
willing to give.

Restarting the explorer.exe process helps for some users. See:

Thank you so much Ramesh. I have not restarted my computer to see if the
settings stay, but they are here now, and I am sure that they will not
change. I appreciate your knowledge and willingness to help even if it is
your job. THANKS!!!

Re: Taskbar issues - missing power meter, network icon, and sound
You're welcome! The method I posted is only a workaround, and there I'm
unsure why this happens every now and then in Vista.

Similar problem was seen in some Windows XP systems, with automatic logon
enabled. The workaround was to disable the SSDP Discovery Service. REF
MS-KB841571.

Re: Taskbar issues - missing power meter, network icon, and sound icon

Hello From MAcedonia..

- Run “regedit” (Registry Editor)
- Find “iconstreams”
- Delete all registry keys with names “IconStreams” and
“PastIconStreams” until “iconstreams” can no longer be found in the
registry
- Restart Windows Vista
- Enable the missing icon using the usual method:geek:

To restore notification tray icons:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/wp.../trayicons.reg

Download trayicons.reg and save to Desktop. Right-click on the file
and choose Merge. Click Yes when prompted for confirmation.

After running the .REG file, you need to terminate and restart
Explorer.exe for the change to take effect.
