How long does it take?

What "Broadband" are you referring to?

Well if you turn everything off each time that would be normal for a
modem to negotiate the fastest attainable speed with the modem at the
ISP end. The whole point of broadband is that it's "Always On", so if
you turn the modem off then it has to obtain an IP address, negotiate
speeds etc every time. Worse if you have a router.

If you can give some more specific details someone with a similar setup
might be able to improve on this somewhat. If the modem is left on and
it takes this long then what kind of network you have and the settings
may give a clue. If it's a laptop you take to other places this could
also be a clue.

Re: connecting to broadband too long

Okay we have 2 laptops hooked up to this network with a modem and a
linksys router. The modem and router are on 24/7. The laptops are turned
off at night. The laptops have not left this setup for over 5 months.
The only thing that has changed is thet the modem and router were on and
off a few times while the room was being painted and i had to set up a
new network and it looks like i have two. One is a broad band PPPoE
connection and the other is the one that is connected. Does this help?
