going to get older versions of the fonts (losing newer minor updates or
major ones like TrueType families > OpenType).

In your vain attempts to change the way a badly coded website displays in
IE7, you are messing with things you do not understand.

There are different ways to define which fonts and what size are to be used
in websites, and different browsers interpret these instructions differently
if they are not positively defined.

Anybody know how good IE7 is in supporting CCS on web sites?

It's a lot better than IE6, but still not as compliant as Firefox.
