Creating Recovery Disks w/sleep problem

We have a new computer with the Vista Home Premium OS. I need to create a set
of recovery disks but we are experiencing a problem with the sleep function.
Occasionally, the computer will restart from sleep on its own without any
input or action from us. Should I wait until this sleep problem is resolved
before I create the recoery disk set or should I go ahead and create them now?

The concept behind a recovery disk is that you create it when the system is
in a known good state. It makes no sense to make an image when it is not
fully, and correctly, operational.

That being said, I create incremental images - sometimes when a system is
sour. This way if I try to correct for the problem, and end up making it
worse, I can go back and try something different.

When I work on a customers system the first thing I do is to create an image
and store it on a removable drive. Then I begin work on their system. If I
need to go back, I can. When the system has been repaired I toss the
original image.

I don't have a removable drive that I can use for the image you mention. I
suppose I could create a restore point and then wait until MS resolves the
Vista sleep problem before I create the recovery disk set. I don't like
operating without a recovery disk set as a back up.

Regarding the sleep problem, I assume MS will resolve it via an update. If
that is the case, and I go ahead and create the recovery disks now, and later
have to use them in a recovery operation, wouldn't I just then download the
sleep fix again and be OK?

It's far more likely that something is requesting the system to come out of
sleep at the time that it happens. This is a feature. It could be something
as simple as media guide update, or disk defrag being scheduled to go off at
a particular time. Instead of just sleeping through it, Vista is setting
it's alarm clock to wake up in time to perform the function.

In other words, it's probably not a bug that will be fixed.

could be a mouse movement. any movement will wake the pc up. i have a cheapo
mouse which likes to judder to left every so often. bit of a pain sometimes
as you can imagine.

also there may be a few bios settings; wake up on lan or some other ones?

if everything else is "working" on your computer then there wouldnt be any
harm at all in creating a restore disk now. just in case. dvds are quite
inexpensive these days. do one immediately then see if you can fix the
problem. might save you a major headache in the long run.

I have already set the mouse and keyboard in the device manager NOT to wake
up the computer when sleeping.

Vista only allows you to make ONE set of recovery disks so I'm apprehensive
about making a set until everything is running perfectly. And, at the same
time, I'm anxious to get them made because I don't like operating without
having made a set.

It's not degrag and the Media Guide only undates when on-line (the computer
isn't on-line while sleeping, is it?). Where else should I look to find a
scheduled task that might be waking the computer? Another point is that the
computer does not wake in any regular pattern. It may go several days and not
wake (as far as we know...who knows what it's doing in the middle of the
night?) In other words, it does not wake every three hours or six
hours...when it does, it appears to do so randomly. Any ideas?
