Rating my Computer
I just installed Windows Vista RTM. Windows assigned a rating of 5 to my PC.
I have read the help files, but I still don't know if 5 is good or bad. Can
anyone explain this to me please? Thanks!

Re: Rating my Computer
Think 5 star - 5 is top rank.

Re: Rating my Computer
A rating of 5 is very good.
You will be able to run all Vista compatible software without any problems.

5 is currently the highest rating that the tool is designed to rate. For
more information see
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scr...ta/winsat.mspx. I
say "currently the highest rating" because as PC hardware advances, there
will need to be a way to show something higher than what would currently get
a 5, so 6 and higher will be added in the future. This will allow higher
values in the futuer without forcing existing hardware to lower ratings over
time. See
http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/wi...epth-look.aspx
for more info on that.

Re: Rating my Computer
Or they could make relative shifts and what was once a 5 can eventually
become a 3. Makes more sense that way, and tradition dictates it as
precedent in a lot of areas.

The current top score is actually 5.9. My computer is rated at 5.3, and I
have 5.9 for Primary HDD performance (RAID 0 Raptors).

That won't make much sense at all, as this benchmarking system is meant to
be used to show what particular software can be run on a system. I doubt it
will catch on though.
It is useful for people to see what bottlenecks they have in their systems,
so that they can make suitable targetted upgrades.

They could, but that is not their plan. The plan is to add higher top-end
ratings as technology advances. This really is the only logical way to do
it, regardless of tradition. Why? Let's say I publish an software
application designed for Vista, and I require at least a 3.5 rating for my
software to run properly. If 3.5 today means something different in the
future, then I have to update the material included with my software to show
the changed value. That just isn't feasible. So instead they add new
values to the high end, leaving existing ratings unchanged.
Decreasing values would also be confusing to consumers. Today they check
and their rating is a 4.2. A few weeks later they check again and now their
rating has dropped to a 3.9. Yet they changed no hardware. That would lead
to a large number of questions from folks about what happened, why did it
change.

Re: Rating my Computer
Actually I think 5.9 or perhaps 6 is tops currently. I have a 5.2 on one
box and 5.3 on another. 5 is excellent, however.

RE: Rating my Computer
Let me ask you this. HOW in the world did you get a 5. I am still at 1.0
and my PC runs great.
What are the specs for your computer.
