Spyware .exe program won't save or run into Program Files folder
Good Morning,

I have downloaded a spyware program (Ad-Aware SE) from the internet and
tried to save it to a new folder I called 'Security' in the 'Program Files"
folder. It would not allow me to do that but offered to save it to my user
folder. I saved it there but now it won't let me run the .exe stating
"invalid access to memory location".
Can anyone help me with this - most probably very simple - problem?

Thanks in anticipation,

Lil...

I created a folder C:\Utility. I install all of my computer maintenance
programs to this folder and have not run across any that would NOT install
to that location, including Ad-Aware Professional.

The problem is that the "Program Files" is not writable and is only
there for older programs that absolutely must have a Program Files
location. Here's a link that explains the Vista setup quite well:

I would uninstall Ad-aware or do a System Restore to before you
installed it. Then do as Mr. Urban suggests or simply allow Ad-aware to
install in the User folder as it wants to. Make sure that Ad-aware is
compatible with Vista, too.

Re: Spyware .exe program won't save or run into Program Files folder
What are you talking about?

Of course Program Files is writable.

However IE doesn't let you save in the program files directory by default.

That's where things are supposed to install to, not where you're supposed to
save them.

Dear god, how many kids do we have on here who just randomly spout off?
