vista voice recognition - audio file to text
HI, I am trying to transcribe an interview and tried a program called "wave
to text" but when downloaded it seemed to have a virus with it and, even
worse, would not work. Can vista take an audio file and transcibe it?

If not any suggestions.

Thanks

JOHN

Not exactly. It has to hear it. Googling "speech recognition vista" will
probably help you.

Re: vista voice recognition - audio file to text

Thanks Patrick. I did do the google search but, of course, it did not help
me as I am tryig to transcibe an audio file.

OK< so it seesm Vista cannot do that so I need to pursue the program "Wave
to text"

I did download this but one of the files was corrupted with a possible virus
and it would not run.

JOHN

No, it cannot.

And regardless of which program you use, whether it is Windows Speach
Recognition or a third party alternative such as "Dragon Naturally
Speaking", you won't be able to transcribe an audio file to text. This
is because the state-of-the-art in Speech Recognition is still
speaker-dependent, and thuss need to be trained to recognize a specific
voice.

Only when Speach Recognition technology becomes speaker-independent
with the ability to filter out background noise will this be truly
possible.
