Installing Vista Ultimate

I have Vista Ultimate upgrade and XP upgrade so do I have to install Windows
2000 then install XP then install Vista. Is there an easier way?

According to various sources, it's possible to install Vista Upgrade without
a pre-exisiting XP. See, for example, http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932
I haven't tried it myself, so take it with a grain of salt...

You can do a clean install of Vista using the upgrade disk. First time
'round do not enter the Product Key [you will get prompting to select a
version - select the exact same one as the upgrade DVD - in your case
Ultimate], also make sure to have unchecked the auto activate feature. Once
installed *upgrade* that installation: re-insert the Vista DVD while Vista
is running and let it play ..

This second time enter the Product Key etc. etc. when and where prompted.
Once it is install then you can activate online and it should activate
successfully.

Basically you will get an exact rollover as Vista installs an image so this
is an excellent way to get a clean install of Vista using an upgrade DVD.

You have to have something on your computer to upgrade from.
You can not put an upgrade disk(as clown saucy suggests), and do a clean
install.
The upgrade must be firstly installed from a running Widows operatingSystem

I was prompted during the clean installatio to insert Windows 2K or XP
with no problem.

clean install Vista but do NOT insert the product key when asked.
after you get it to boot, it will give you so many days...
start the installer again from within Vista, input the product key when
prompted and you're ready to activate.
no previous OS installation is required.

You are mistaken, genius. The upgrade disc can be used:

First do a clean install using the upgrade disk, but do not enter the
product key nor allow activation. When you are prompted to select which
version of Vista to install, select the very same one for which the upgrade
disc and its product key are intended for i.e. Business if the disc and its
key are intened to upgrade to the Business version of Vista.

Once intalled, turn around and *upgrade* that first installation by
installing Vista again as an upgrade. This time enter the product key and if
one wishes, enable automatic activation. It should activate online when it
goes to activate or the when the user manually chooses to do so.
