Hi,
What sort of drive is it being shown as in Windows Explorer? DVD or DVD RW?
If it's not showing as the latter, then there is a problem in how the drive
is being reported to Windows. As you've already tried a firmware update, I
would next try uninstalling and reinstalling the device. Otherwise, you may
need to contact Samsung about this issue.
