Edwin, you are the one comparing apples to oranges. You are looking at
Apple's increase in market share (which you say is 0.35%), then trying
to say that the 0.35% is the increase in computers that Apple sold.
Actually, the valid comparison would be 0.35%(Apple's gain in market
share)/2.86% (Apple's previous market share)=12.23% gain in market
share.

The BBC recently pegged Linuxat 0.8 percent.
The hitsink and w3schools sites seem to agree as do many other site stats.

Your "herd mentality" theory holds no water because firefox seems to be
doing well.

The Mac is growing faster than oany other platform.
Linux desktop is still languishing on life support at well below 1 percent.

So what do you have to offer other than baseless claims and insults, Rick?

Maybe you can get Roy Schestowitz to give you the phone numbers to those
"reliable sources" that live in his head and then at least you would have

That makes about 347M PCs in the last 5 quarters.

Didn't Microsoft announce the 140M Vista recently?

That makes 207M PCs running something other than Vista in the last 5

(1) The "Comfort Apps" are missing.
(2) The Linux community has not been very good at promoting itself. Many
people still think that Linux is this geeky OS that requires a degree in
computer science to get up and running.
(3) Since Windows or OSX comes "free" and pre-installed on every computer one
buys, No one but enthusiasts sees any reason to dump a pre-installed OS that
has "real" software available for it in favor of an unknown OS that has,
essentially, none.

time.

Edwin, it is obvious that you are mathematically challenged, not to
mention logically challenged. I compared like to like, namely previous
market share to present market share, and showed that the Mac market
share increased >12%. Alan compared total computers sold vs total Macs
sold over time (again comparing like with like), and showed that the
number of Macs sold over time has increased approximately 4 times the
number of computers sold over the same period. We are both using figures
supplied by you. You are trying (unsuccessfully, I might add) to twist
these figures to show that Mac market share has not increased over time,
or that the market share increase has been minimal. You have failed.

Perhaps it is time you give up, or (more likely) find another nym you
can use. Though, you have been caught every time you tried the sock
puppet route.
