Photoshop CS 3 beta for Vista anyone?

Perhaps if you are a professional and your work is going to end up in a
book or magazine, then yes.

Otherwise programs like Corel Paint Shop Pro, Ulead PhotoImpact or Adobe
Photoshop *Elements* are more than enough for most users.

And then of course there's my personal favorite.

I just tried out the CS3 beta on Vista and it's very nice. Sure, you could
use Paint Shop Pro or the GIMP, but once you use Photoshop, it's hard to use
anything else. Photoshop just does so much more.

My standards are obviously much lower

I did not pay attention to that. My concern for other
applications/utilities is compatibility, but for PhotoShop, I assume it
should have some performance differences, especially when our image files
are at least 20+ MB.

So I was testing to see how will it perform with Vista, and the result is
pretty impressive. I have to admit CS2 is also doing good with XP but it's
even better with Vista.

By the way, I am not a big fan of Aero Glass and I won't trade it for slower
application performance or incompatibility if that would be the cost.

I did take into consideration for Vista is a fresh install, so I never
commented on boot up time (which is also faster), but on per-application
basis, I don't think it would matter that much provided my XP is also
well-maintained.

Speaking of Java 6, the final seems very well behaved. Have you seen
anything to the contrary?

Except for proper red-eye removal. Paint Shop Pro did it so much better.

Well if you've got the $600.00 to buy it (unless you're upgrading of
course) the go for it. That's a tad rich for my blood (especially for
one program - it's not like the whole CS).

For an extra $100.00 you'd have enough money to buy a Vista Premium
Capable PC.

Or you could do like 80% of the Photoshop users out there; find a copy
on a P2P network with a crack and get it for free.
