Hello Ken,
I'm still "in the dark". When I " registered" in this Vistax64.com, I
have the option to notify me when I get replies on the threads I
participated. I was asked where to send the nitifications and I gave
them one of my e-mail addresses. So, this vistax64.com is a newsgroup
client ?

Ken is confused. He missed that you're talking about a web-based
service. That's the only way you can get email notification about
replies to what you've posted.

You cannot get anything similar by using a newsgroup client.

No, you're using a web-based forum. That's very far from a newsgroup
client. The newsgroup client that comes with Vista is called Windows
Mail.

You can't configure a newsgroup client to send you E-mail
notifications, but you can configure it to highlight messages in
threads you're involved in, and put them first in the list of threads
That's what I was recommending above.

No, not at all. I began my participation in this thread by pointing
out that that's what he was doing, and recommending that he switch to
a newsreader instead.

That's correct. However he can overcome his stated objection to using
a newsreader ("Who wants to scroll to my threads ,which will be all
over, and find out if I have replies or not ??") by following the
advice I gave.

Ok, I'll see if I know how to configure the way you mentioned. Thank
you.

To reinforce Ken's advice, only Web-based forums will enable one to
have e-mail notifications. I've never seen this facility in Agent,
and probably never will.

I highly recommend Forte's Agent Newsreader. It's now in it's 4th
major iteration, and is EXTREMELY powerful, EXTREMELY configurable,
and EXTREMELY fun to use.

Want to read newsgroups? Do it to the "EXTREME" by using Forte's
Agent Newsreader.

(I am not affiliated with, or employed by, Forte, Inc. in any
capacity. I am just a long-time Agent user, and very happy with the
program. In fact, I've been using Agent since the late '90s, when it
was still in Beta.)

I am still using the free version, and it's everything you say.

Not only are the "msnews.microsoft.com" groups "mirrored" on many
other NNTP servers, their actual "location" IS "msnews.microsoft.com",
which is HOSTED by Microsoft, NOT "Panix".

ANY non-Microsoft NNTP server it is "on" has a "mirrored" copy of the
ORIGINAL groups, which are kept on "msnews.microsoft.com"

If you don't believe me, NOTE the actual ORIGINATING domain:
"microsoft.com" That domain is NOT "panix.com". PERIOD.

That depends: Do you want to keep paying Panix for copies of the
actual newsgroups, or do you want to access them at their ORIGIN, for
FREE?

It's entirely up to you, friend.

in ANY case, PLEASE don't use a Web Reader to access these groups.
Get a decent NNTP client, like Agent. You will be happier, since it
will be MUCH easier to keep track of your posts and responses.
