Vista wont boot correctly
I installed windows xp on a separate partition, not thinking about the fact
that i wouldn't be able to get back into vista normally. At that point i
inserted the vista install disk and then restarted my computer and did a
startup repair. I restarted my computer and the windows loading screen came
up. The operating system only loads to the point that the mouse appears
against the black screen. the windows logo doesnt come up, even if you wait a
long time. There's no welcome screen- nothing but a black screen and the
mouse cursor. The partition that has Vista on it has all my files and i can
access it, but I cant run any of the programs. how can i fix this?

Re: Vista wont boot correctly
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to
troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392/en-us

You should probably use the disk boot Command Prompt to do a :

bootrec /fixboot

and

bootrec /RebuildBcd
