Problem Reports and Solutions: What was the problem?
I've posted it as a feedback on OCA web site and thought it wouldn't hurt to
post it here also...
I have a problem trying to corellate what is suggested as a solution with an
error that this solution is supposed to apply to.
For example, I have two entries listed under "Information about other
problems and solutions":
- Hardware failure: replace failed component
- Error is being researched
Theres no indication however in detailed description of each entry as of
which particular error in problems history it is a solution to. No date of
error, no error name no nothing.
"Thank you for submitting an error to the OCA, it is currently being
researched". Oh, great, but... What error? I was sending about a dosen of
them in last several weeks.
I think it doesn't need an explanation that it helps to know what was the
problem you are providing additional info/solution for.
In case of first solution listed above if at least date of error was
provided in solution details I could figure out which hardware I was adding
at that date and what could be the problem here. But it simply reads as
follows:
==================
"Thank you for submitting an error report.
Problem description
The error was caused by an unrecoverable hardware error which forced the
operating system to stop functioning.
Although we know the problem is caused by a hardware component,
unfortunately the error report does not contain enough information to tell
us the specific component. More than likely the problem is being caused by
problems with one or more of the following computer components:
Random Access Memory (RAM)
System board
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
Power supply
Recommendations
If you have received this error more than once, it could indicate a serious
problem with your computer. We recommend that you do the following:
Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware
failure.
Contact the original manufacturer of your computer or your local computer
repair shop. Either will have advanced hardware diagnostics to determine the
specific component which is failing."
==================
OK, you don't have any idea about which hardware failed, that's OK. But if
you just gave ANY clue as to which error you are talking about then probably
I could figure out the rest by myself.
I'm either missing something simple or there's a serious lack in connection
between problems reported and solutions suggested.
