Firefox 2 on Vista: S L O W

I've posted over at Mozilla and gotten a few suggestions -- perhaps folks
here may shed some light on this problem. I'd like to confirm that other
folks are experiencing the same phenomenon -- that IE7+Vista and FF2+XP load
these sites (listed below) quickly but FF2+Vista takes forever to load the
pages. Thanks!

Web sites hosted on my server take forever to load when viewing them in FF2
on Windows Vista. But the problem doesn't seem to be my server because...

1. pages load fine in IE7 on Vista
2. pages load fine in FF2 on XP

How slow is slow? After browsing to a site in FF2, I can launch IE7 and
completely load the same page before FF2 finishes downloading the images.

I can only reproduce this problem on sites hosted by my server. I can only
assume some other sites would behave similarly but I can't seem to find any.
Here are a couple sites that are slow to load:

http://drnaeve.com (old-school tables site)
http://envexpress.com (xhtml 1.1 served as text/html)
http://claremoredisciples.com (xhtml 1.1 served as text/html)
http://elsamaritano.org.ni (xhtml 1.1 served as application/xhtml+xml)

These all share an IP address. I'll change something on my server if it will
help, but I'd like to know if the Firefox team believes there is a problem
with the browser as opposed to my server. The server is running IIS6 with
gzip compression enabled on Windows 2003 Server.

I just tried the first two in the list on FF2 and IE7 in Vista RTM and yes I
can repro your observations, IE7 loads them quickly and FF loads them
extremely slowly.

Normally I have a great experience with FF2 and can't distinguish any speed
difference. What about Opera?

Thanks Colin.

I don't think many folks in Mozillaland are runing Vista right now so I
wanted to be sure that it wasn't just me. The bad news is that it isn't just
me!

Like you, Firefox 2 seems to be working fine in Vista -- this is also a
problem because opensource projects don't want to work on edge-case problems
and this is turning out to be a classic edge-case problem. Only sites on my
server seem to be having this problem but my server is able to serve pages up
fine to other browsers. I haven't loaded Opera yet.

Some folks at Mozilla are suggesting it's Vista's firewall but I don't even
see Firefox listed in the Firewall app. Perhaps this is just the motivation
I needed to learn how to use Fiddler. :-)

don't use firefox!
IE7 is better than firefox.

Now this could be me listening to the marketing teams too much but I also
have Onecare Live 1.5 beta installed and it turns off the Vista firewall and
installs it own. Now how different the two are I have no idea, but that may
rule out the Vista firewall, you could always turns it off and see if the
problem persists.

It's not only opensource projects that don't touch edge case problems. There
are plenty of bugs in Vista which Microsoft hoped that because a small
number of people or hardware configurations will experience and they could
get away with not fixing them, for fear of breaking something else and
actually managing to sell a few copies.

This feature is by design. Microsoft encourage customers to use IE7 instead.
If an unfortunate circumstance requires Firefox, then Microsoft recommends
using its own Microsoft Firefox available at:

Where do you get that MS recommends that? From the look of it, that website
is bogus. I doubt that MS would say things like:

I am from a place that does not condone infringements on
copyright/trademarks! No where is there a disclaimer saying that it is a
joke. No where does Saucy say, this is not real, instead he suggests to the
above OP that MS is recommending this. However, I have relayed to MS the
trademark infringement, Saucy's comments, as well as yours. That sort of
false help is destructive, not to mention a waste of time.

What I find amusing, is that you chose to 'attack' me, instead of attacking
someone who is obviously lying!
