1) In C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Window s\Start Menu\,
create a folder called "Desktop Shortcuts" (minus quotes).
2) Place shortcuts to all items for which you desire a hotkey in the new
folder.
3) To create the hotkey, right click on a shortcut & choose Properties. The
resulting dialog should default to the 'Shortcut' tab.
4) With the cursor in the 'Shortcut key' field, type whatever key you want
to use as the hotkey.
Note that if you type a letter such as 'n', windows will place Ctrl + Alt +
before it by default. If you desire a different prefix, you can press the
keys you wish to use as the prefix, i.e., Shift + n (windows will place Ctrl
+ by default).
And finally, you can press F4 in the shortcut key field. Windows will not
place a prefix before an F key, so you can press only F4 and it will bring
up notepad.
