1GB is sufficient for the average user, 2GB is a good amount. You've
answered your own question though, if the problems are still there after
adding more RAM, that wasn't the problem. It's not likely the OS that's
causing the problem, but some piece of software fluff that HP has loaded on
the system, or a hardware problem. Go into programs and remove anything you
don't use and see if it helps.
