Dude, that's a bit strong. I'm writing this now using Windows Mail under
Windows Vista, but the only reason I use it is to run Visual Studio. Of
course you can program .NET in Ubuntu, as well as nearly everything else you
can can do in Windows, but of course VS is better by far than anything Linux
has to offter up to .NET programmers. Oh, and I play NFSU2, which for the
life of me I couldn't get Wine to run under Ubuntu however I tried. I use
Ubuntu for everything else. There are advantages and disadvantages to both
systems...

Linux Ubuntu:

Advantages:

*It is free.
* You can install any program for practically any function you can think of,
for no cost at all, by starting up the Add/Remove program, checking the box
next to the software name and clicking Apply. This massive database of
thousands of packages is also searchable.
* It runs faster by far than Windows Vista, and is much more stable.
* Regular updates that do not require you to restart your computer nearly
every time they come.
* Ubuntu is practically immune to viruses, and there aren't any anyway. lol
* Unlike most Linux distributions, it's very easy to install proprietry
software from the menu I mentioned earlier. DVD players, MP3, MPEG support,
etc.
* Easy install of NVIDIA graphics drivers.
*A hugely powerful command line.

Disadvantages:

* It does not support many Windows applications at the moment, especially
games.
* Harldy any commercial games are programmed for Linux.
* It can be complex to install some programs and drivers that are not
directly supported by the Ubuntu Community.


Windows Vista:

Advantages:

* Lots of support by the industry. Almost all manufacturers of
hardware/software make it able to run under Windows.

I'm sorry, but this is the only advantage Windows has, although it is a very
big advantage.

Disadvantages:

* It is slow, and takes up too much memory and processing power just to sit
there displaying its posh arse. lol
* There are THOUSANDS if not millions of viruses for Windows, and although
it is more secure, Vista is still practically wide open without a 3rd party
package such as Norton IS to keep it safe, and even with protection like
Norton it is not completely immune.
*It is expensive.
*It creashes more regularly than Linux and sometimes, a restart is required.
In Linux there are seven terminal sessions open at once, six of which you
cannot see and the seventh your desktop is running on. If your dektop
freezes completely because of an application crash, simply switch to another
terminal session using a keystroke and end the application causing the
error. Then switch back to the desktop. Restart avoided, no data lost. You
would have to be a Linux guru to crash all seven terminals at once.

For me, don't know about you, these are reasons enough to be a fan of
Ubuntu. I used Windows for years, and until I used Linux I thought it was
great. Like I said, Linux can be a pain sometimes, getting things setup and
working. But once everything is as you want it it won't suddenly stop
working again or change somehow for no apparent reason. I'm glad to see the
back of Windows, but I don't think the people who prefer it to Linux suck, I
just think they're missing out.

I have the best of both worlds. You should try it. lol

With a Matrox cards? Oh, forget about that, I had to switch to a box
with an ATI card to get it to install. Otherwise no go!

If an app crashes in Vista there is no need to restart Vista. Just close
and restart the app.

Sorry, but I've been trying linux distros for over a decade now and
always with the hope that..."this is the distro that will actually do
what all of the linux fans say it will"....

I also share my box with windoze and linux, only because I have to. I
have a small partition of 10g set asside for windoze and only use it
for specific .EXEs that I unfortunately cannot do without, otherwise I
would prefer to get rid of it all together. I absolutely refuse to get
Vista, am still using XP, I just don't like the way that MS relys on the
public to debug their OS. But you know what, Mac is getting a lot of
attention, especially now that they are using intel, and linux is
really stepping up now, I think that this is the beginning of the end
of MS. Oh please oh please be true.
