Best frequencies and settings for Acronis True Image Home 11

Hi all,

Just installed Acronis True Image Home 11, and I'm still trying to plan
how I'm going to use this software.

I'm still in the process of installing all of my needed software on my
Vista X64 OS, once done, I'll create a New Full Backup Archive, then
schedule to create a differential/incremental backup every 1-3 days.

Could you please help me out and tell me:

- Should I do differential or incremental backups?
- How often should I do these differential or incremental backups?
- What files should I backup? What setting? EG: Entire disk, personal
files and/or system files?
- What compression rate should I set it to?thank you

How you use Acronis is a matter of choice. I have used this product for
years and have been very pleased. I do incremental backups about every week
and backup the entire drive to an external hard drive. If your environment
changes frequently then more frequent backups would be recommended. I use
the Acronis default settings for the other stuff such as compression. Before
you begin be sure to burn the Acronis bootable CD and change your BIOS
settings to boot from CD first. Good luck.

My scheme when starting with Vista was install it apply SP1 and then do a
full backup. You can always start from that point. Then install your
software and get what I called 90% there! Then do another complete backup
noting what you have done. Then install more and get to 100% and do another
full backup and your off and running. I backup fully weekly and don't bother
with inc. backups as I've found they are almost the same size as full and it
doesn't take that much more time to do a complete back up to an external
drive.

YMMV, Rich

I also use Acronis True Image Home 11. I use full backups only and
backup to two different locations on a daily basis. The first location is
the Acronis Secure Zone and the second location is to an external HD. I have
an abundance of drive space on my internal drive and two externals for a
total of 1.32TB so I don't have a need for incremental or differential
backups. A full backup is much easier and quicker when it comes to a
restore.
I backup everything and don't use compression, again, because I have an
abundance of drive space. I overwrite the daily full backup every day.
Sometimes I will save and transfer certain full backups to a different
folder if I wish to save that particular configuration. You will have the
option, during the backup setup process, to limit the amount of backups
and/or the drive space allotted for the backups.
You never know when you will not be able to access your internal drive
where your OS is located so I also created the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media
on both a CD and a DVD. Once created, I tested both of them to be certain
they would work if needed. You should also occasionally test one of your
backups so that you know everything is working properly.

C.B.
