Asian Language Packs?
I bought an Acer Laptop last week, it was pre-installed with Windows Vista.
I have no problem in browsing websites in chinese language, but when I try
to download a popular Chinese Chat software ( QQ Caht)
http://im.qq.com/index2.shtml
during the downloading process with the small downloading windows, it shows
all character as ?????????????????????????? and not the correct Chinese
character.
Could someone please tell me how to solve this problem?
I had done this :
1.On the browser-internet options-general-language-add-Chinese PRC.
2.Control panel-Region and Language-add language-Chinese PRC.
But this isn't working, druing the downloading process of the small windows
of QQ
http://im.qq.com/index2.shtml it shows only all question
marks????????????????

Please kindly advice how to have this QQ windows shows correct Chinese
characters.

Thanks

I don't speak that language, but that error sounds a lot like a Font is
missing.

I see Chinese characters on that site. This is in a recently purchased Dell
laptop with Vista preinstalled. Carl, I think you should contact Acer
customer support. There should be a number to call included with the
materials that came with the computer.

Cheers,

Earle

I downloaded and installed QQ on my Vista desktop computer so my wife
could use QQ on a much bigger monitor. I am running Vista Ultimate x86 and
QQ wreaked havoc on my system, causing many problems. It didn't take me long
to uninstall it and decide to never install it again.
However, I downloaded and installed QQ for my stepson on one of my
laptops running XP Home and it caused no problems whatsoever. Everything
works properly. I did the same for my wife on my other laptop running XP
Pro. Everything works properly. All my computers are Dell and I've never
really had any problems, so to speak, on any of them.
The biggest problem for me is the fact that almost all Chinese software
wants to monitor your every keystroke and website visited and report home. I
have found this to be true on 90% of the Chinese software I have tried and
believe me, I know Chinese software. My wife and stepson use it every day
and I go to China every year where I must use mostly Chinese software. I
refuse to use PPLive because of the same issues.
In any event I hope you solve your problem. If you care about your
privacy I suggest you use a firewall that can monitor all your outgoing
connections. You'll be surprised at what QQ wants to do.
