Vista IE7 - trouble saving files locally when using IE7?!
Hi,

Vista business with IE7 - internet zone in protected mode.

I am trying to save say PDFs from internet sites (in internet zone) and
receive first a UAC then a access denied when trying to save to a local
drive (or even a network drive!).

Here are steps to reproduce...

1. Right click on link to save PDF
2. Save to path
3. Then says access denied and i need to provide admin permissions
4. Click on the continue button
5. Type in admin credentials
6. Then it comes back with access denied

The UAC admin credentials have local admin rights to the machine, if i grant
local admin rights to account everything works fine.

Any ideas?

Matthew

Where are you trying to save the PDF file to?

I know that you cannot save files to the root of the boot drive and I
believe the same is true for the Windows directory.

Try saving the PDF to your desktop to see if that works.

Hope this helps,

It is pretty much anywhere, even to a network UNC.

I am running windows x64 if that makes a difference.

Very strange behaviour!

Re: Vista IE7 - trouble saving files locally when using IE7?!
So I can test this properly.

The machines are registered on a domain.
The user account is a domain member.
The user account does not have local admin rights.
Will Vista Business work for this test?

Let me know, and I will test this on my home network tonight and give you
the results.

Re: Vista IE7 - trouble saving files locally when using IE7?!
Matthew,

Sorry, cannot duplicate your problem.
I was able to save PDF files from IE7 to the local machine, to a mapped
network drive, and to a UNC network location.

I'm using Vista Business but it's only 32-bit.

I've tried saving PDF files from several different website, but they all
worked.

Sorry about that, I'll keep poking around to see if I can get it to fail.
