'catalyst install manager has stoppeed working'
I always get this message when trying to install catalyst drivers, I had
8.3 which I uninstalled and now I can't install anything anymore,
somewhere I read that there is a problem with net framework 2.0 and
catalyst so I should reinstall net framework but you can't do that on
vista 64 it's embedded so I doubt this is really the cause of the problem.

I use an ATI X1300 Pro. Like you, I always uninstalled the previous CCC
before installing an update. It is common knowledge that ATI drivers are
troublesome to install. I decided long ago to just leave CCC alone and not
update it unless it was a necessity.
ATI releases more driver updates than any other graphics card vendor,
mostly to satisfy the gamers. If you are not a gamer there is really no need
for you to ever update the graphics card driver unless you are experiencing
a problem or need to update it for compatibility.

But how do I install them now, I am sure nvidia can be uninstalled
without a problem why isn't it possible with ati? Some very bad
programming by ati I just want to install 8.3 back nothing else.

Mad Max,

I don't know why you should be having this problem. Did you uninstall
the previous version in the proper manner? See the link below:

http://www.amd-firefly.com/firefly20...eflyclient.jsp

Have you tried disabling your antivirus and antispyware applications
before the install? Have you tried disabling your firewall prior to the
install? It shouldn't really matter, but you could try anyway.
If these steps don't work you could try downloading and installing the
..Net Framework 2.0 even though it is already imbedded in your system. It may
work, but then again, it may not. The worst that could happen is that it
won't install or you will get a message stating that it does not apply to
your system. The link is provided below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

If this doesn't work you could always search your registry for any
remnants of the previous version that may be hindering the install and then
remove them but you must be very careful editing the registry. Create a
restore point before editing the registry. I have found that many drivers
for different software will not install as long as there are previous
remnants in the registry. This should not happen, but it does.
Again, regardless of the approach you take you should make a restore
point before doing anything. Speaking of restore points have you tried to
restore your system to a point prior to the uninstall of your previous CCC
software? This should at least allow you to again use your current version
until you determine what your installation problem was.
If you don't have any luck you can always make a free call to ATI
support concerning your issue. See the link below for information:

http://www.amd-firefly.com/firefly20...eflyclient.jsp

Let me know when you determine the nature of the problem so that I'll
know the causative factor in the event I encounter the same problem in the
future.

Re: 'catalyst install manager has stopped working'
Thanks for all the help, let me be more precise now.

First I am not a begginer and yes I have uninstalled all of it although
it wasn't pretty, eventually I went into safe mode and removed all the
traces of ati with driver cleaner net yet it didn't help. Then I
installed visual c++ 2008 x64 and net frameowrk 3.0 and 3.5 I tried to
install 2.0 but vista claims it is already installed.

Here is how this happens, i run this file
8-3_vista64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_59753.exe

screen shows up

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4705/45189697ba2.jpg

i press install, it seems to get to the end and than this message every
time

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/3259/92256157jx0.png

and the error looks like this

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: InstallManagerApp.exe
Application Version: 3.0.664.0
Application Timestamp: 47c37cad
Fault Module Name: MFC80U.DLL

Although I am a pretty advanced user I am totaly new to Vista and maybe
it is my fault somehow, it is a fresh install of vista x64, the updates
are the service pack1, I have no antivirus or firewall(except windows
firewall), I turned off uac and superfetch, every program I tested works
except I can't get windows mail to start it tells me this message
'windows mail could not be started becuse msoe.dll could not be loaded'.

Re: 'catalyst install manager has stoppeed working'
I've given up and will reinstall on an internal hard-drive, the thing is
I've installed vista on an external esata and at least once a week
chkdsk checks it when entering windows whitch means some files could be
corrupted and that's when chkdsk initalies itself it is definetly not a
scheduled check, I've scanned it for bad sectors and nothing.

I don't know maybe it's a crappy esata drive it's primary mode is usb so
maybe files get corrupted in the transfer or something I hope I have
better luck on a normal hard disk.

Mad Max,

I don't recall insinuating that you were a beginner. In any event, I
hope you solve the problem.

Re: 'catalyst install manager has stoppeed working'

I hate to bring up such an ancient subject, but i stumbled across this
postwhilst searching Google for a cure to ths issue.

Has anyone ever had any success with thi? I have even tried the steps
here, usig not only CCleaner but 2 other cleaners to make sure all bad
entries were gone from the registry during that step:

http://www.driverheaven.net/mobility...d-working.html

However, this does not work either.

I am about to just reinstall Vista, but I really do not want to. Time
to reinstall Vista 64 bit -- half an hour. Time to reinstall Adobe and
everything else I have that requires activations, licensing, etc. -- 2
weeks. I really do not want to do that but I have a feeling ATI hosed
my OS with this :-(

Re: 'catalyst install manager has stoppeed working'
I see this thread keeps getting brought up so I wanted to leave a fix here since it seems to be at the top of google.

I followed the tutorial here and it worked out really well for me. The issue seems to be the c++ runtimes for me anyways.
