How to Scan with Vista Basic?

I'm able to fax from a stand alone fax machine and I installed a third party
fax from http://www.usr.com/bvrp/bvrp.asp to work with Vista home Basic but
I still can't scan from from the glass to store in memory. Is there a
freeware scan program out there to work with Vista Basic?

I don't know about free, but I purchased VueScan ($40), and it works great.

Have you tried scanning from the scanners and cameras control panel or
from paint?

I tried from paint and failed so I went to Scanners and Cameras and set it
up to scan from Photo Gallery. I had to change the driver. Thanks for the
