Re: Speech recognition
Lionel, it's cool if you have the time and inclination to 'train' it
properly. Although i did read somewhere that for maximum effect you needed
to speak in a 'mid american' accent; Mmm that rules me out epseically as i'm
from the UK:-)
Seriously I have used it and it does understand the "Queen's" English, but
aftere dicatating I always end up with a throbbing headache.
For maximum effect you also need a good qaulity microphone headset.

Re: Speech recognition
Love the speech recognition -- little training needed, and it's pretty
accurate.
It crashes once in a while though and I'm not sure why. The speech
recognition engine just closes down. Not sure what the pattern is yet.

Most people didn't realize it was in XP either. But it is!

I think it's really amazing! Wasn't even aware that it was included with
Vista until I happened upon it. I've had several voice recognition programs
in the past which were a real pain. This picked up 95% of what I was
saying, even using just a cheap desktop microphone. Well done Redmond!

Re: Speech recognition
Where is it in XP ??
I have in XP but only because Microsoft Office 2003 is installed and when I
select Speech in Microsoft Word.
Without Office installed, I don't see where there is any Speech Recognition.
If there is, then I can get rid of Office.
Thanks

Re: Speech recognition
Microsoft Speech isn't all bad, but it is back in the dark ages in
comparison with the best current day speech recognition program,
NaturallySpeaking Version 9.5.
Some important differences are that NaturallySpeaking has: interactive
training that provides word by word user feedback regarding successful
recognition, there are multiple user selectable training texts, it is
possible to correct and re-train not just words, but also phrases and
both the desired and mis-recognized phrases; there is a capability of
editing and adding/deleting words and phrases in the master and user
vocabularies, there are specialty vocabularies including business, legal
and medical; user program code can be added to control a variety of
recognition and formatting functions, and, last but not least,
NaturallySpeaking's recognition accuracy is vastly superior to that of
Microsoft Speech.
Finally, it is important to know that accurate speech recognition is
dependent on using a quality microphone and sound converter.

Speech recognition does not work
When I click on any of the links in "Speech Recognition" form the Control
Panel" (Like: "Setup microphone" or "Start speech recognition"), I get this
error-message:
"The referenced collection is not installed on your system"
What can I do to fix it?

Re: Speech recognition
I don't know which sentence you're referring to, but if you've successfully
gone through the tutorials, then perhaps have a think about what has changed
since eg the position of the microphone etc
