Upgrade from 5744 to retail version ?

I have a computer set up and running the 5744 release (downloaded for
free one weekend). As I recall, it said it would run for 6 months
before it "expired".

What will happen when the trial period ends? Will it give me an
opportunity to purchase a retail license? Or should just go out a buy
a CD and start all over? Or ???

You will have to buy a copy of Vista, and I would recommend a fresh install.
You can't just buy a license and use it as your still running beta code.
