I honestly don't know if there are any quirks of X64 that would make the
following irrelevant, but it applies to 32 bit versions of Vista.
First check that in Control Panel -> Folder Options -> 'View' tab, the
setting labeled:
'Remember each folder's view settings'
is checked.
Start Search -> regedit<enter>
In the Registry Editor, under the key:
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Po licies\Explorer"
look for a value named: "NoSaveSettings", if it exists, delete it.
Next check under:
"HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags"
you should see a a vast number of subkeys, each named with a decimal digit.
Expand a few of these subkeys. Here's an edited version of what you should
see under most keys:
[HKCU\...\Bags\102\Shell\{7D49D726-3C21-4F05-99AA-FDC2C9474656}]
"MinPos1024x768(1).x"=dword:ffffffff
"MinPos1024x768(1).y"=dword:ffffffff
"MaxPos1024x768(1).x"=dword:ffffffff
"MaxPos1024x768(1).y"=dword:ffffffff
"WinPos1024x768(1).left"=dword:00000000
"WinPos1024x768(1).top"=dword:00000000
"WinPos1024x768(1).right"=dword:00000320
"WinPos1024x768(1).bottom"=dword:00000258
That's how Explorer saves window positions. If you don't mind losing what
saved folder views you have, you could try deleting these two keys:
"HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags"
"HKCU\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU"
Log off & back on to clear Explorer's head, then try opening & closing a few
folders & see if their size & position is be saved. Check the registry to
see if 'Bags' & 'BagMRU' have been recreated ( they should be).
Please post back with results.
