Protected mode off
I bought an HP computer in July, had a tech from circuit city set it up, he
had to do a system restore after he set it up, tried to complain to the
store, told to bring my machine back. After 10 days they told me it was
perfect. Brought it home and the protected mode said off. We went through all
the settings, it was enabled, computer was restarted, and message never went
away. I was told don't worry, my computer is perfect and protected. What do
you thinK?

Are you talking about the protected mode of IE7?
You set it under internet options > security

Re: Protected mode off
Check Internet Options>Security tab to see if Protected Mode is checked.

If it is checked my guess is that circuit city turned off UAC and never
turned it back on. If UAC is off Protected Mode is disabled.

Re: Protected mode off
The security tab enables protected mode. I'm using Internet Explorer 7.
What's UAC?

didig,

If UAC is turned Off, then it will also turn off Protected Mode even if
it is enabled in IE7. You might check to see if had been turned off. You
can also see what UAC (User Account Control) is and does.

'User Account Control (UAC)'

Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) and Internet Explorer (iexplore.exe) are
different things. Sort of.

Did you try enabling it? If it won't work go to control panel > User
Accounts and enable User Account Control.
